All clothes must be neat and clean at the beginning of the day and may not be torn, have frayed edges, or have any other typically non-traditional features which might draw unnecessary attention.
No clothing shall be excessively tight and form fitting, excessively loose, or immodest in design or style. All clothing shall be worn in a neat and modest manner. Following is a helpful guideline regarding appropriate fit: one inch of fabric can be easily grasped without stretching or pulling the fabric of the side seam of all upper and lower body wear.
Upper Body Wear
All shirts must be collared.
Blouses or dressy shirts, with or without collars, are permitted for girls as long as the blouses/shirts are not basic, rib-necked, v-neck/crew neck/athletic T-shirts.
Both Boys and Girls
Small, trademark logos are permitted, provided that they are inconspicuous and appropriate. Shirts with screen-printed graphics, statements, and advertisements are not permitted. All upper body wear must have sleeves and a neckline that is sufficiently high. Shirts/blouses must be cut long enough to prevent the midriff or undergarments from showing at any time. Shirts that do not have a straight and finished hem must be completely tucked in.
Lower Body Wear
Both Boys and Girls may wear slacks, cargo pants, or colored, denim pants (no blue jeans, please) that have a relaxed fit. Please utilize the school’s guideline for determining relaxed fit for lower body wear: one inch of fabric can be easily grasped without stretching/pulling the fabric of the side seam. Please note that the denim clothing should be crisp and clean in appearance and not be frayed or faded.
Shorts (tailored or cargo), of relaxed fit (refer to the guideline above), and that fall no shorter than three inches above mid-knee) may also be worn. Blue denim shorts are not permitted.
All lower body wear must be worn at the waist and should not be exceedingly tight or loose.
Athletic- and lounge-wear is not permitted.
Girls may also wear skirts, dresses, gauchos, and capris. Dresses and skirts must fall no higher than three inches above mid-knee. Dresses must also meet the applicable sections of the General Requirements and the Upper Body Wear stipulations. Leggings may be worn under skirts or dresses that are in keeping with dress code standards.
Outer Wear (sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets, coats)
Only the following outer wear items may be worn inside buildings, and all must be worn over regulation attire:
Shoes must be worn at all times. All footwear must be clean and presentable. Shoes that present a potential safety hazard (flip-flops, roller shoes, etc.) are not to be worn. Military-style boots are not acceptable.
Hair must be kept neat, clean, and not covering the eyes. No tattoo, either temporary or permanent, may be visible.
Boys are asked to remain clean shaven and to not display any piercings or earrings. Girls may wear one earring in each ear. No other visible piercings are permitted. Only girls may wear nail polish.
Hats or other head coverings, such as bandannas, may not be worn indoors, except in the context of sporting events. Sunglasses are not to be worn while in a building.
Spandex worn at athletic events must always be covered by clothing of modest fit and length.
Any article of clothing, accessory, hairstyle, or other such aspect of outward appearance deemed to be unusually distracting due to color, pattern, cut, etc., is unacceptable.
Relaxed Dress Code
For after-school athletic events, picnics, field days, and other events as designated by the school office, a modest relaxed dress code will apply. Heritage Academy’s Relaxed Dress Code allows for: modest-fitting blue denim jeans and shorts (no frays, rips, or holes), t-shirts (with appropriate graphics permitted), athletic shorts; hats, and flip-flops.
Remember our guideline for checking fit: one inch of fabric can be easily grasped without stretching or pulling the fabric of the side seam of all upper and lower body wear. Please no short shorts or spaghetti-strap tops for girls.
