House SystemHeritage Academy utilizes the House System to promote character and community building among student, teachers, and parents. Students are assigned a House at the beginning of each semester. All family members are sorted into the same House. Houses vote for high school leaders to be team captains. Each House is comprised of two captains and a teacher mentor as the leaders. Houses primarily meet during community life (9:45-10:15) on Fridays, but also participate in special events.
Houses serve to develop friendships and mentoring relationships within our student body and promote the core values of our school (Partnership, Academic Excellence, Biblical Worldview, and Christlike Character) through fun and competition. Houses compete in fun activities throughout the year and earn points. Houses can earn small prizes through out the year. One "House of the Year" award can be earned at the end of the year. Each house is comprised of: -A Teacher Mentor -A Character from the Bible -A Hero of Faith -House Color -House Bible Verse -House Captains (2 High School Students) UMSI.org encourages house systems because they have been found to build community, create ownership, assist discipline, enhance events, assimilate students, aid in retention, develop leaders, and establish traditions within schools. |
