Rosetta Stone Language Acquisition Program
Rosetta Stone Language Program at Heritage Academy
A Heritage teacher with experience administrating a Rosetta Stone Language program will track and monitor your student’s progress, using real-time, dynamic reports to quickly identify learners' strengths and weaknesses. Rosetta Stone Courses at Heritage include 82 lessons per semester plus extra work in four areas: 1) vocabulary, 2) translation work, 3) conjugation charts, and 4) cultural appreciation projects. Students in 8-12th grades have the opportunity to learn any of 24 languages using Rosetta Stone Foundations web-based software. Note: MU online offers a similar Rosetta Stone Program without the added value of the teacher-facilitator and the extra work. Rosetta Stone courses are not intended to take the place of traditional Spanish I & II with a teacher. If a student’s schedule allows for the traditional Spanish I or Spanish II, then that is the preferred option. Rosetta Stone Courses are offered as seated and non-seated courses at Heritage Academy. Seated courses meet together with a teacher on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during a specific class period on the semester schedule. The tuition cost for a Rosetta Stone (seated) course is the same as any Secondary Course. Students who elect to take non-seated courses meet with a facilitator once per week and must also enroll in a study hall when on campus. The Tuition cost for a non-seated Rosetta Stone course is listed in the Tuition, Fees, and Incentives document for each year. What is Rosetta Stone? Rosetta Stone is a language-learning software program which offers individualized, immersive, intuitive language instruction. Students may choose from a wide variety of languages. All languages offer at least three years of instruction. Many languages have the option of continuing for five levels/years. How is Rosetta Stone different from traditional classroom/textbook instruction? Rosetta Stone is completely web-based, individualized instruction. Like classroom instruction, it offers lessons in Reading, Listening, Speaking, Pronunciation, Grammar, and Writing. Unlike traditional classroom courses, it does not have a literature component at higher levels. In Rosetta Stone, the student will answer each and every question posed instead of being called on as one of many in the classroom. They will have more practice in speaking and pronunciation, modeling their speech after the native speakers used in the program. Students may complete lessons on their own internet-connected computer or work on a computer in the computer lab at school. What Languages are available with Rosetta Stone Foundations?
